General Knowledge: What do YOU know about Ramadan?
- Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar.
- The word Ramadan is derived from the Arabic word “Ramadha” which literally translates to mean “Intense heat”
- Heat as in exposure to Allah’s mercy which will burn away sins.
- Heat as regards rising temperature in the stomach.
- Heat because when Islamic months where enforced, the month of fasting coincided with the intense heat of summer months.
- Ramadan is the month in which the Quraan was sent down as a guide to mankind and clear sign for guidance and criteria for right and wrong.
- The gates of Jahannam (Hell) are locked and the gates of Jannah (Heaven) are left wide open.
- Laylatul-Qadr is a night in Ramadan, which has so much bounty that it is better than a thousand months.

On the 27th night of Ramadan the Qura’an was revealed
Battle of Badr took place on 12 Ramadan.
