Experiences
They say that Ramadan is all about the experience and the journey. The enlightenment and the way we conduct ourselves whether it be in private matters or in matters involving others. But what happens when you start experiencing Ramadan out of your comfort zone?
This seemed to be the problem i faced last year. What with moving to Johannesburg and living on my own, and getting here only to find that in two weeks Ramadan was upon me like me new job had been. But indeed it was an experience and the realisation that with the hardships come new friends and families.
This year I await experiencing Ramadan in Accra, Ghana.
With an estimated 45% muslim community in Ghana, finding the relevant mosque should not be a problem. Some suggest though that the figure is actually 16% but either way Islam flourishes in this west African country. Also known as the Gold Coast for its abundant quantities of gold found on its river beds, Ghana was one of the first countries to attain independence from the British colonisers in 1957.
Lets see how much I can learn from them in one week not forgetting that I still have a job to do while I am there.
