Fondness for the Quraan
Ramadan is the month when the Quraan was revealed to mankind. The Prophet (SAWS) encouraged increased in recitation of the Holy Quraan.
This Ramadan I feel drawn to the Quraan, as if it’s calling out to me, yearning to be picked up. Enticing me to reach out. I had just completed Zohr salah (midday prayers) when rummaging through the cupboards for additional reading, I came across my OLD Quraan.
The one I’d read from in childhood days. The Quraan I lugged to madressa and school. Some days the task of carrying it around was a feeling of despair and even annoyance.
MY QURAAN!!!
My Quraan… that wrapped my voice and mind along the curves of text.
My Quraan… that taught me the visual grasp of reading Arabic.
Years have passed since I’d opened this particular Quraan. It is encased in Red and faded gold plastic cover with a black zipper. The pages are loose, tattered and worn out, marking the passages of time and my attempts to learn from it within my childhood years.
I picked it out of the cupboard, and my heart brimmed with ecstasy, elation and nostalgia.
I kissed it. I held it. I opened it. I read from it.
The tears welling up in my heart, the joy of knowing *this* was where I had began to acquire familiarity with the Quraan so many years ago.
Alhumdulillah, It is an honor to feel such fondness for the Quraan!!!
The Quraan is not inanimate; it has a life of its own. Is it filled with the words of Almighty Allah (SWT). Allahu-Akbar!
In the Aakhira (hereafter) the Quraan will bear testimony as to whether we have read from it or neglected it. Insha-Allah we will be among those that the Quraan bears testimony for and not against.
I hope each and every Muslim develops a spiritual connection with the Quraan, it is after all, nourishment for the soul.
